Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in national security, defense, or intelligence, including working with UK/European security architecture.
- Experience in AI safety, security, and governance issues.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working at the intersection of technology and government, ideally within an AI lab, major technology company, or relevant government department.
- Ability to engage credibly with, executive stakeholders across UK government departments (e.g. DSIT, MOD, NCSC, Cabinet Office), NATO, Five Eyes partners, and key European counterparts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for policy audiences and vice versa.
- Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.

In this role, you will provide maternity cover for an executive role leading Google DeepMind's UK and European national security strategy, engagement, and partnerships. You will serve as the primary GDM liaison with national security, defence, intelligence, and policy bodies across the UK, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Five Eyes, Germany, and France maintaining and deepening critical relationships at a pivotal moment for AI governance and security.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Google DeepMind’s (GDM) national security strategy across the UK and Europe, ensuring alignment with responsible AI commitments and policy objectives.
- Act as the primary liaison to national security, defense, and intelligence bodies (UK, NATO, Five Eyes, etc.), cultivating trusted, senior-level relationships.
- Represent GDM’s technical expertise in cyber and biosecurity agendas, driving proactive engagement with government departments to shape AI safety and security standards.
- Monitor the evolving policy landscape in the UK and Europe, providing actionable advice to leadership on emerging risks and geopolitical opportunities.
Partner closely with internal Security, Legal, and Public Policy teams to ensure a unified, coherent approach to global external engagement.
