About the role
Climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation. The transition to clean energy is critical to helping us achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK, we have a big part to play in supporting the delivery of a decarbonised energy system.
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our Customer and Network Development team. You’ll be fully accountable for developing pre-construction, high-profile complex projects safely, to quality and to time within regulatory allowances, whilst leading a high performing team of development engineers.
The team you manage will develop solutions to not only meet the technical needs of the NGET network today but also ensure that our systems are fit for purpose in our net zero future with a key focus on sustainable construction in the early design stages to help meet the carbon neutral in construction business targets.
In this leadership role, you’ll be at the heart of developing our major new infrastructure projects. You’ll be curious about project performance, navigate blockers and always strive to find a better way. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team through the early phases of project life cycle, ensuring the principles of construction excellence are applied. You’ll create belonging and develop the project managers of today and the future.
This role is to cover the Central region of England. We’re flexible on where you are based, but there will be travel to sites throughout the region on a regular basis, and this can be combined with hybrid working from home.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is motivated and committed to getting their projects developed safely, on time and to budget. Someone, who can inspire and empower our people for great performance. Someone who can think about the bigger picture.
You’ll have a background in project management/engineering, have strong commercial acumen and experience leading cross functional teams with a good understanding of financial management and reporting at Portfolio level.
A self-starter who is good at playing devil’s advocate and foreseeing potential problems, coupled with the ability to challenge thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge.
Ideally, you will have a degree or qualification in project management, engineering, or equivalent experience.
You will need a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.
What's in it for you?
