About the role

We are looking for Quantity Surveyors to join our Customer Connections (CC) team based in our North region (North Wales, North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humber), Central region (Midlands and East Anglia) and South region (South Wales and Bristol, Oxfordshire, London, Kent). These roles require a hybrid working approach with a mix of home, site and office working.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the UK’s transition to clean energy within our Customer Connections (CC) team as a Quantity Surveyor, where you will provide contract and commercial guidance to the project teams in supporting the development and delivery of connection and infrastructure projects safely, on time and within budget.

What you'll be doing

You’ll support procurement activities associated with the projects, acting as the key commercial representative providing guidance on commercial and contract management considerations and advising on contract options and budget estimates, including risk & contingency allowances.

You’ll be responsible for the quality assurance of construction contracts, including maintaining accurate contractor data records, providing commercial and contract management support, guidance and coaching to the project delivery team and ensure contractor costs are robustly managed across the portfolio of projects.

You’ll ensure contract compliance, through effective contract management activities including monitoring of spend against agreed budgets, KPIs and other metrics. Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts will be a key responsibility.

You’ll produce all necessary contract forms such as valuations and payment recommendations and instructions and communications for the assigned project, leading on providing independent reviews and advice on variations and compensation events, supporting any escalation procedures and dispute avoidance and resolution processes.

You’ll build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including Project Managers, Planners, Accountants, Operational colleagues and other specialists, contractors, and colleagues in procurement, regulation and legal teams, reaching out to senior stakeholders for assistance when it is needed.

What you'll need

This is an experienced Quantity Surveyor role, and you would be leading on your own projects. You will have experience of delivering several projects already and be able to demonstrate experience of contract and commercial management, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and procurement.

You should have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law and an understanding of NEC contracts (Option A, C and E). Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential. You might have a contractor or consultant background, for example.

You also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. There is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to site as and when required, but as part of our hybrid working model you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home, a National Grid office, or site. 

What you'll get

Starting salary of £49,000 - £62,000 dependant on experience – plus an additional Market Supplement of £3,000
