As a member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services across the Society. You will work in collaboration with a team of engineers to increase understanding of technology and inform decisions on its potential use and adoption. You will be comfortable working with a wide range of technologies and stakeholders and will welcome the opportunity to learn new tools and techniques. This role is within the Chief Technology Office, which is responsible for setting the Society's technology strategy, operating the central technology governance processes, and focusing on the future technology we need to deliver our Society Blueprint.

What you'll be doingDelivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services across the Society, including configuring and testing new technology and applications to determine their effectiveness and potential for integration within Nationwide.
Drive innovation experiments. Identify, define, and scope innovation experiments that align with our technology strategy. Support the innovation process from PoC initiation, scoping, prioritisation to approval.
Collaborate with fellow engineers to increase understanding of technology and inform decisions on its potential use and adoption.
Work with a wide range of technologies and stakeholders and welcome the opportunity to learn new tools and techniques.
Share experience and knowledge with their colleagues and engage with both technical and non-technical people across the business.
About youWe are looking for a Proofs of Concept Software Engineer with experience in a range of technologies and cloud development.
You should have demonstrable experience in:
- Programming with at least two modern languages, such as Golang and JavaScript.
- Proven experience of the software development lifecycle, software delivery, software design, architectural patterns and experience with industry-standard tools and methods for delivering software (version control, CI/CD pipeline, etc.).
- The ability and enthusiasm to research and learn new languages, technology, and frameworks rapidly.
- Experience using and architecting cloud-based services in either AWS or Azure (the broader knowledge of cloud service portfolios the better).
- Data layer architectures (for example, NoSQL data layers such as Cassandra/MongoDB).
- Experience of implementing solutions using containerisation technology such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to describe technical solutions to technical and non-technical people.
- Teamwork skills, mentoring, and resourcefulness with a proven sense of ownership and drive.
