This role is within our Customer Experience Platforms team, responsible for ensuring our colleagues can make best use of the applications in their day to day, ensuring business systems are fit for purpose.
You will be responsible for the design, implementation, upgrades and enhancements of technology solutions across the data domain. You will provide technology and data leadership and management, growing our engineering and data capabilities to deliver our technology and data strategy.
Our Data Architects are player-coaches, so you'll be comfortable setting goals and line managing the senior engineers within the team, be they on or offshore. You'll work with colleagues across the Society to improve the functionality and reliability of the technology stack at a reduced cost.

What you'll be doingWe have an exciting and extensive portfolio of change to manage over the coming years including but not limited to: implementation of data-led solutions using data bricks & Azure, automation of business processes, integration with the data Lakehouse architecture, and supporting changes to regulatory reporting. In addition, you will also be actively involved in delivering our integration with Virgin Money.
From the outset you will ensure the quality and service performance of the estate with a focus on strengthening data quality controls.
You will work with the Data Platform team, engineers, architects, business stakeholders and project teams to provide data and engineering input to inflight and upcoming projects. This will include:
- Leading the design, test, implementation and on-going changes required for data and technology solutions in the Data domain.
- Supporting the on-going delivery of the Data business and technology roadmap.
- Driving adherence to the domain data architecture and engineering principles, patterns, and standards, to ensure best practice and effective use within the organisation.
- Strengthening the control environment for Data applications and data.
You will use your leadership skills and Subject Matter Expertise knowledge to work with stakeholders and peers to understand and influence how the Data solutions support operational activities.
About youWe're looking for someone with a proven track record in providing engineering leadership, technical design and delivery of secure solutions. You will have in-depth knowledge & experience of the following:
- Strong technical background with extensive experience in data and application engineering.
- Line Management and engineering team leadership and development (including 3rd parties).
- Proven experience in Data and working with Data stakeholders.
- Knowledge and understanding of Data Management principles, including Data Design & Governance, Data Quality, Master and Reference Data Management, Metadata Management, Security and Compliance.
- Demonstrable experience of pragmatic approaches to Data engineering across data and reporting technologies including: Data Lake, Data Bricks, DBT, cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
