We're looking for a DevOps Engineer with passion, creativity and determination who'll help us deliver efficient, robust, resilient and secure solutions that meet the need of the business and our customers.
We develop public facing services including www.nationwide.co.uk to provide service and support to our visitors and members. Behind our websites and applications sits our CMS platform providing simple and efficient content authoring capability to our business. You'll work closely with Application Engineers developing our resilient and secure cloud infrastructure, containerisation, managed through orchestration, automation and CI/CD (Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery) pipelines.
You'll be working predominantly with Azure cloud resources, Terraform, Kubernetes/AKS, and Azure DevOps. We continue to evolve and have some multi-cloud and portability opportunities too.
This role is in the Cloud, Digital & Integration function. We're responsible for the Society's Core Digital Channels (including mobile app and internet banking), the middleware estate and cloud platforms. Embracing new technologies, our team's focus is enriching and improving our Customer's Digital experience with new capabilities and improved performance and resilience.
The role is in the CMS Platform Team. You'll be at the heart of helping our members. We develop and support a content management application and infrastructure, consumed by Nationwide's public facing digital services, ensuring our services and infrastructure are secure, resilient, reliable and performant. You'll help create the systems used by millions of people right across the UK.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time,
based at either our Swindon, London, Bournemouth or Northampton office. What you'll be doingWorking in a small scrum team you'll be managing and upgrading the infrastructure and tools we use to develop and deliver our content management capability to support digital service and websites like nationwide.co.uk.
You'll be developing and delivering CI/CD pipelines to automate tasks to optimise the efficiency and reliability of our delivery processes.
You will support the Application Developers to diagnose and resolve issues that block or slow down the delivery of change to our applications.
You'll look for opportunities to simplify cloud infrastructure, optimise costs and improve security and performance.
About youFor the role of DevOps Engineer, we expect you to have the following skills and experience:
- Solid background and experience of managing and deploying cloud infrastructure on Azure and experience of other cloud platforms
- Experience deploying and managing build agents and CI/CD solutions
- Managing Infrastructure as Code and using automation pipelines
- Kubernetes or another container platform
- A background in application development, programming, and shell scripting languages
- Experience debugging complex systems to identify solutions.
