The Associate Marine Project Manager role is an excellent stepping stone into project management.

You’ll be working on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, supporting the Senior Marine Project Manager in overseeing and managing marine infrastructure projects..

As we make the move to Net Zero, we’re looking for an Associate Marine Project Manager to help deliver our portfolio of subsea cable projects in the UK. These include our Eastern Green Link 4 project, comprising an HVDC link, transferring 2GW of green energy between Scotland and England. And Sea Link, a HVDC link to reinforce the transmission network between Suffolk and Kent with 2GW of transfer capacity.

Your role will involve project management responsibilities, ensuring smooth project execution and successful delivery of the marine elements of one of these projects. You will help to define marine ways of working and promote positive marine working environments. As you do this you’ll be supported and trained to progress through the National Grid Project Management framework.

You will be working predominantly from home with some travel required (approximately 25%).

Ideally experienced working in marine, engineering or utilities sectors.

Has a driving licence, with the ability to travel as required, and there might be some overnight travel too. There will be some flexibility required to work outside of normal hours, and perhaps most of all, a willingness to do whatever it takes to successfully deliver your projects.

Strong organisational and communication skills, allowing you to work effectively in a team environment. Your excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities further enhance your qualifications.

Has knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationship management, which will be advantageous in this role. Additionally, your familiarity with project management principles and practices will contribute to your success in leading projects efficiently.

What You'll Do

You’ll have a range of activities including:

You will support the Senior Project Manager to administer the marine elements of the EPC contract and marine survey contracts.
Drafting contractual communications, and supporting the Senior Project Manager with any other contractual matters, such as reviewing compensation events, issuing instructions, programme acceptance, and payment application reviews.

Risk Management

Assisting the Senior Project Manager in successfully identifying, quantifying, and managing risks on your projects.

Support with collating and maintaining an up-to-date risk register and reporting on it on a monthly basis.

Supporting the Senior Project Manager in maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. Communicating with stakeholders in a timely, clear, concise and professional way.

Project schedules

Liaising with our consents teams, stakeholders and contractors you will look at constraints and help to manage the overall marine works schedule.

You will help to monitor the impact of marine resource availability, weather, and environmental factors on projects’ timelines.

Marine works budget

Supporting the Senior Project Manager in successfully managing project budgets and accurately forecasting spend profiles.
Assisting the Senior Project Manager in successfully identifying, quantifying, and managing risks on your projects.

You will help to control the marine works costs and monitor the impact of delays, managing internal implications and knock-on effects across the portfolio.

Liaising with internal and joint venture finance teams, you will contribute to your projects’ finance processes. You will help to ensure they remain within governance and the wider programme of works budget.

SHEQ

Acting as an ambassador for safety at all times. As an organisation we are driven by safety. Our industry leading ‘Safe to Say’ policy calls for colleagues to always speak up and take ownership of safety issues.
You will be key to the marine works SHEQ management, communicating in a clear, timely way to ensure safe systems of work and a positive end result.

You will promote offshore wellbeing, ensuring contractors have good processes and understanding of marine working environments.

Project governance

Acting as a support to the marine lead, you will contribute to any project governance requirements. For example, when an EPC contractor is chosen, you will help to provide the justification during internal National Grid regulatory processes and governance.

Project engineering

During the project development phase, you will assist in managing the overall marine engineering process, including coordinating marine inputs, studies and consultant works.

Coordinating desktop studies, marine surveys and post-survey engineering will be another accountability.

During the delivery phase you will work closely with the EPC contractor to plan and execute the marine cable installation and associated works.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £45,000 – £55,000 dependent on capability.

Dependant on your location and likely business mileage, a new hybrid or fully electric vehicle may be available.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
