What you’ll be doing: The Software Development Advanced Apprenticeship is a 2 year scheme that will increase your software development knowledge whilst providing exposure to the roles and responsibilities of our Solution Definition and Delivery Team. Through a rotation of placements, you will have the opportunity to learn about how we design, develop, deliver and test bespoke applications for the business and how we build, maintain and support bespoke software. You may also get opportunities to undertake placements in other areas of Technology Enablement and the wider business to enhance your knowledge and understanding.
To support your learning and development and to compliment your studies, you will work with our experienced teams who will mentor and coach you whilst working on real life tasks and projects, providing you with shadowing and learning opportunities on the job.
The role holder will:
- Learn new coding skills
- Work as part of a team in the delivery of software to business users
- Gain insight into different stages of development projects from initial requirements analysis through to delivery
- Work on our low code/ no code rapid application development tool (training included)
- Develop applications
- Develop an understanding of the whole development lifecycle with responsibility for requirements maturation, arranging testing, deployment and product ionisation of the application
- Learn about software testing in a variety of delivery models
- Gain insight into ISTQB processes - standard training for a test person
- Be introduced to Test Automation
- Undertake test planning and test execution
- Analyse requirements and test design
- Manage defects

The Submarines team: Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges.
