About the team:As a Principal Product Manager you'll sit within the Product Chapter alongside other Product Experts. Tesco Mobile depends on its Product experts to be the voice of our customers and colleagues. Principal Product Managers set the strategy and vision for a Product area of strategic improtance to the business. Each of our Principal Product Managers is accountable for the strategy, alignment and outcomes of squads working in a Product area.
The Product area you'll own will depend on your skills, expertise, interests and business priorities. You will be accountable for ensuring the squads are aligned to a common purpose and vision, and understand the role they each play in delivering against that. You will make value-based priority calls to ensure the Product area delivers maximum value for Tesco Mobile and our customers.
This role can be based from our Welwyn Garden City, Slough or Manchester office depending on your home location with hybrid working (2 days a week in the office).About the role:As "the voice of the customer" you are accountable for maximising the value of your Product Area. You'll work with Product Owners, Technical Product Owners, Tribe leads and other stakeholders to define a vision, strategy and roadmap for your Product Area, aligned with the strategic objectives of the organisation. You will set ambitious goals and use your Product Area KPIs to measure progress towards them.
You will be responsible for partnering with leaders across Tesco Mobile and our shareholders including customer, engineering, data, operations and finance to drive the best outcomes for our customers and Tesco Mobile.
You will play a key role across the business in identifying growth opportunities and shaping our future Product agenda. You should have brilliant inter-personal skills and be confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including Leadership and board level, to understand their priorities and set out your Product agenda. You should be confident speaking with customers and consumers and be highly skilled in understanding what matters to them.
You are expected to set a clear and inspiring vision for your Product Area, define key strategies and make priority calls to ensure your squads are working in an aligned way towards a common goal. Your decision making will be led by customer and business value and you will be skilled at inspecting and adapting in response to customer feedback and changing business priorities.
You will be a catalyst for change within Tesco Mobile, decentralising and democratising data and knowledge for your Product Area to empower Product Owners to create and deliver brilliantly for customers.
You will be a leader with extensive Product Management experience and a proven track record of value delivery with particular experience in the telecoms and / or retail industries. You won't be afraid of making mistakes and should have a desire to learn fast and test as you go to validate your assumptions. You will instill this culture within your squads and associated areas.
- Using your understanding of your Product Area and how it contributes to our enterprise strategy and OKRs, you will set an ambitious vision and roadmap to align squads across Tesco Mobile around a common goal
- You will work collaboratively with Product teams to set stretching goals for your Product Area. I ensure our goals are aligned with Tribe and Business OKRs and deliver the right balance of short- and long-term value
- You will deliver as a Product Owner in a core squad, ensuring our work is always aligned to our long-term strategic plan.
- Considering the full lifecycle for your Product Area to ensure there is a plan for continued growth - Analysing and spotting patterns in data, identifying and mitigating risks that may impact future Product performance
- Understand customer behaviour and the use of customer research combined with experience of human-centric design methodologies; using structured processes to design new products, services and experiences that customers love
- Champion a culture of continuous learning and promote a culture of data-driven decision making to continuously improve our performance, driving empowerment and aligned decision making.
- Understand our systems, platforms and processes. Collaborate effectively with our engineering teams and bring sufficient challenge to ensure we remain fully customer-focused.
- Inspire others to think expansively about what we could achieve, and am skilled with story-telling techniques and use these to share your vision in a way that motivates the business to act.
- Ensure business and customer needs remain at the heart of what we do (including security, privacy, safety and accessibility)
- You will be an expert in either the retail or telecoms industries and can show evidence of influencing the direction of large organisations to achieve significant commercial growth
- Experience working in an agile organisation, with a working knowledge of Scrum methodologies, tools and practices
- Extensive Product Management or Product Ownership experience
- Understand customer research methodologies and how to interpret customer insight from multiple sources
- Strategic thinking; evidence of setting a clear vision for a major strategic priority, and plotting a customer-led roadmap to get there
- Strong commercial expertise
- Evidence of communicating confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, including at exec and board level
- Curiosity, desire to understand customers and their behaviour, and a capacity to learn fast
- Analytical and problem-solving skills using data and insight and the ability to manipulate data to extract insight
- Delivering brilliant customer journeys through multiple channels
