About the Team
The National Grid Transmission Control Center is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and control of all our transmission assets (≥ 115 kV) across Upstate New York through a 24x7 facility. Our department interacts extensively with field operations, the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), various engineering groups, and other utilities in the state to ensure reliability to our customers and our system.
What You’ll Do
- Provide engineering and technical support to the Transmission Control Center to enable the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid’s New York transmission system.
- Perform system and operating power flow studies as required to support peak load and other unique system configurations. This involves thermal and voltage analysis using a state-of-the-art power flow software.
- Maintain close and effective working relationships with the EMS staff, field work force, engineering departments, and distribution control centers.
- Assist in the development of key projects, including but not limited to:
- Power flow analysis tool development to aid operators in thermal, voltage, and contingency analysis
- Ambient adjusted equipment ratings (FERC Order 881) implementation in control center
What You’ll Need
Qualifications include (but not limited to):
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Applicant must have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
- Applicants must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
- Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for at least the Spring 2024 Semester

Work Structure Overview
This opportunity is classified as in-person, meaning you will be reporting onsite to our Liverpool, NY work location 5 days a week. This opportunity will be full-time, 40 hours a week.

Salary Range
$20.00 - $23.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)
$29.00 an hour (Graduate Student)
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
