Job Purpose
To implement construction strategies and methodologies that maximize and ensure the safe and efficient execution of the Transmission & Distribution capital substation construction work plan. Execution of these goals is achieved through ongoing guidance, supervision and clear communication of responsibilities focused on the internal National Grid Crews and Contracted resources.
Key Accountabilities
- Supervise assigned department personnel to assure that construction projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in a high-quality manner to meet National Grid and regulatory guidelines.
- Plan and organize daily operations of construction workforce where assigned to construct Transmission & Distribution substations and other National Grid facilities.
- Assure that assigned personnel are productively assigned to the highest priority work, trained and evaluated within National Grid guidelines and procedures. Conduct worker performance appraisals and provide developmental plans.
- Assure that required vehicles, equipment, materials and tools used by personnel are available and maintained at proper levels.
- Assure that required paperwork is accurate and submitted on time (e.g. drivers logs, vehicle inspection reports, crane inspection reports, job briefings, tailboard discussion check sheets, time sheets, etc.).
- Understand and interpret the union labor agreement to assure uninterrupted and safe workflow.
- Estimate labor and material costs for proposed substations project work. Assist with soliciting quotes from vendors and contractors as periodically needed.
- Prepare and present periodic oral and written reports regarding work assignments and construction progress including variances and change orders. Participate in project team calls.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Two year technical degree in civil engineering, construction management or equivalent experience.
- 3 - 5 years relevant civil construction experience in all aspects of electric utility operations, utility construction operations or similar industry.
- Strong knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, NEC, local, safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret job scope of work, prints, specifications, schematics, one-line’s, outage plans, instructional information and contract documents and be able to catch errors before they are made and create effective solutions.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of National Grid’s maintenance practices, safe work practices, tagging rules and labor contracts.
- Ability to work as a team and independently. Must be self-motivated and have strong time management and record keeping skills.
- Able to travel throughout the service territory and willing to work extended hours when job required and for system emergencies. Maintain a non-restricted driver’s license.
- Construction Supervisor license in the state of Massachusetts is desirable or having the ability to follow thru with obtaining a Construction Supervisor license in the state of Massachusetts.
Salary
$123k - $174k a year
