National Grid is hiring a Senior NDE Specialist. The role will be located in our Northport, NY office.

Job Purpose

Implement National Grid Generation Nondestructive Examination (NDE) program.  Supervise and perform NDE techniques at steam generating, gas turbine and associated equipment at corporate facilities and other locations.  Work may be performed during off shift hours, weekends and in field conditions.  

Key Accountabilities

•    Interface with internal and external customers and support organizations regarding examination, techniques, and results. 
•    Review, plan and execute NDE activities.   
•    Prepare and/or review written reports of NDE work performed, including methods, results, and recommendations for the future.  
•    Prepare and approve NDE procedures.  
•    Support equipment maintenance and calibration programs.  
•    Provide NDE project coordination.
•    Provide supervision of National Grid workers and contractors during power plant outages and other work assignments.  
•    Provide training and support qualification of personnel in the Reliability Section.  
•    Assist other NDE personnel in all methods of nondestructive examination.

 

Qualifications

•    Certified or capable of certification in visual, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, radiography and ultrasonic testing to Level II.
•    Interpret codes, standards, specifications, and procedures.
•    Evaluate test results to ensure compliance to codes, standards, and specifications (ASME, API and AWS).
•    Capable of performing NDE inspections from heights, on scaffolding and from within mechanical equipment (Boilers and Turbine components).
•    Additional Senior level qualifications preferred: ASNT Level III certification, American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), associate degree in science.
•    Perform contractors audit and surveillances to ensure satisfaction of code and contractual requirements. 
•    Applicants in good physical condition capable of passing a respirator physical examination and pulmonary function test.  Applicants must also be capable of carrying test equipment weighing 50 lbs. up a flight of stairs without assistance.
•    Coordinate and provide supervision of contractor NDE workforce.
•    Motor vehicle driver license. Candidates shall have knowledge of a wide breath of NDE methods, techniques, and applications.   Training in NDE techniques required.  Exposure to science or engineering technology and experience in power plant or industrial construction environment preferred.
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in NDE of Power Generation or related equipment
•    The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with construction employees, coworkers and leadership is required.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

$115,000 - $135,000 a year
