Within Markets, the ‘Flexibility Market Strategy’ department is the strategic engine thinking about the development and growth of flexibility markets that are vital in meeting our zero carbon operation ambitions. The team aims to enable and unlock flexibility, including distributed generation, storage, and demand side flexibility such as EV charging and electric heating. They also engage with a variety of stakeholders and collaborate with industry experts and innovators to design the roadmap to achieve that vision. They lead on and deliver innovative and radical market development projects, including CrowdFlex.
CrowdFlex looks to establish domestic flexibility as a reliable energy and grid management resource. CrowdFlex explores how domestic flexibility can be used in grid operations to help align demand to generation, improve coordination across the network, reduce stress on the system, while empowering consumers to be active players in reducing their energy bills via new tariffs and incentives.
Building upon pioneering projects (CrowdFlex: NIA, Discovery and Alpha and the Domestic Reserve Scarcity Trail); CrowdFlex BETA will through flexibility trials build flexibility and Demand models to demonstrate and understand/clarify the role domestic flexibility can play in addressing the system challenge of decarbonisation. As more renewable generation is added to the network, it will become increasingly difficult to balance supply and demand. Domestic flexibility provides a huge opportunity during this energy transition to build a smart flexible energy system by enabling consumers to act as a new source of flexibility on the network.
As Flexibility Market Development Modelling Lead, you will lead the Modelling work package delivering the flexibility models and working with the flexibility service providers (FSP) to deliver the demand models and interfaces. You will support the Flexibility Market Development manager in ensuring the successful delivery of this project and other commitments made as part of the Flexibility Market Strategy roadmap.
