Job Purpose

Engineering Lead is a critical member of the Digital, Data and Technology team for National Control. The role is accountable for leading a team of engineers (specialised in UI/UX, REACT, DevOps, Microservices, RedHat Platform, Java, Python, .Net, Kafka, Kibana, SonarQube) working towards replacing the current Balancing Mechanism (BM) with a new Open Balancing Platform, enabling change and business outcome through technology modernisation across the ESO via the Balancing Transformation Investment. The role also supports the Senior Delivery Manager responsible for Open Balancing Platform.

Key Accountabilities

NG Technical ownership of all Engineering Squad deliverables
Help team to take better engineering decisions
Collaborate with PO to prioritise tech debt
Coach and grow individuals
Improve team process and workflow
Cross-pollinate through establishing engineering WoW
Bring technical consistency across squads
Collaborate with RTE to establish release cadence
Facilitate engineering transparency
Leading and developing squads to deliver consistently in an Agile framework.
Continuous technology discovery, innovation and improvement
Application, platform, and integration dependency management

Qualifications/ Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or similar field or equivalent work experience.
Vast of experience working in the technology industry with previous experience in a leadership role.
Demonstrable experience in a software development leadership role, leading diverse software engineering teams.
Experience of leading and developing multi discipline teams.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, succinctly, accurately, with clarity and appropriate level of detail.
Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to build diverse high-performing teams and optimise team performance and development.
A thorough understanding of Agile Methodology for software delivery, including Kanban, Scrum & SAFe
Experience of working with cloud-native architectures, microservices and open APIs.
Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders.
Proven supplier partnership experience.
Experience of working in a matrix team and building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

More Information

A competitive salary between £50,000- £70,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
