Our External Affairs team is responsible for building and enhancing National Grid’s reputation and influence. As External Affairs Manager, you’ll lead the management of the Public Affairs & Policy work for National Grid’s newly formed Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business, to enable the business to meet its objectives across strategic campaigns and other priority issues.

Working at the very heart of the industry you’ll be engaging and working with key stakeholders across Government, industry and academia, developing policy across Britain’s changing energy infrastructure landscape - driving the UK towards meeting our Net Zero ambition - you and the team will also be responsible for horizon scanning, issue management, policy development and taking ownership for key messages across strategic integrated and other priority issues.

About You:

You’ve got proven experience of successful campaigning and engaging within a multi-stakeholder environment and are credible in influencing internal stakeholders in a large complex organization - working in a collaborative manner to plan and deliver integrated campaigns and engagement strategies. You network, influence and negotiate at the highest levels, actively building and maintaining your network of relationships, with a track record of successfully communicating complex policy solutions in a clear and concise manner to multiple audiences. You understand the role of digital in delivering campaigns, providing intelligence and insights, anticipating, identifying, and managing issues and risks and their interconnections and assessing outcomes and impacts. In person, you’re results orientated and highly organized, with strong attention to detail, and a proven ability to plan, execute, measure, review and report public affairs and policy activities.

Good knowledge of the key external stakeholder landscape, which relate to and impact on the energy and infrastructure sector would be well regarded, as would a demonstrable interest in politics and public policy.

You’ll be managing 1 person; therefore, management experience will also be beneficial.

What we can offer you:

Salary: up to £65,000 - dependant on experience

Plus:

Up to 15% Annual Performance Bonus
28 days annual leave, plus 8 statutory days.

This role offers hybrid working, working between our offices at The Strand, London (c2 days pw) and the rest from home.
