Job Purpose

Scrum master is a key role within a scrum squad. The key purpose of this role to ensure team effectiveness and productivity in order to achieve sprint goals. This role liaises with all squad members across the business (e.g. Product Manager, Product Owner, SMEs) and digital delivery to ensure that everyone plays their role effectively. As strong facilitators, Scrum Masters act as coaches, support the team, and achieve maturity on agile ways of working.

The Scrum master will measure, track and maintain the team effectiveness using KPIs such as velocity, burnup and burn down chart etc. Using KPIs, this role collaborates closely with the team members and leverages ceremonies such as retrospectives to identify impediments and areas of improvement. This role helps to maintain a safe working environment for the team by assisting the team removing impediments to ensure productivity and achieving sprint goals. Scrum masters are empowered to engage with leadership and stakeholders as needed, especially when blockers aren’t removed, and team’s productivity and effectiveness is negatively impacted. The scrum master helps the team perform at their highest level. They also protect the team from both internal and external distractions.

The role is flexible and hybrid, 1 or 2 days per week in the office.

Key Accountabilities

Maintains ownership over scrum process and ensures that everyone within the squad e.g. product owner, development team members, delivery leads etc. play their role effectively to achieve sprint goals through value driven iterative delivery.
Holds the scrum team accountable for the defined and agreed sprint goals
Holds the scrum team accountable to their working agreements, scrum values, and to the scrum framework itself.
Prepare team charter and ways of working for the squad that aligns with guidelines from Ways of working team. Closely collaborate with Head of ways of working and Agile coaches, as applicable to ensue alignment.
Works with product owners to ensure that the backlog is defined, groomed and prioritized before starting the sprint in order to achieve a ‘potentially’ shippable product at the end of the sprint that delivers value to the business.
Apply relentless focus on continuous improvement, adoption of agile mindset and automation.
Participate in end-to-end acceptance testing to support the team.
Assists the team removing impediments to ensure team productivity
Establishes a culture of continuous improvement and continuous learning by leveraging sprint ceremonies such as retrospectives to help the squad identify and implement improvements for the future sprints
Owns, manages and facilitates the scrum cadence and ceremonies that are positive, productive and timely
Protects the team from external interruptions and distractions
Supports the squad with coaching where needed in order to achieve higher level of maturity on agile methodology adoption.
Influencing scrum teams to be self-organized/self-managed.
Tracks the effectiveness of the team and scrum process through KPIs such as velocity, burn up/ burn down chart, backlog health etc.
Creates, maintains and communicates team KPIs using tools such as Jira and ADO to all levels within the team including stakeholders and leadership team.
Ensures KPIs are tracked, maintained and communicated as part of the sprint cadence.
Provide monthly update on the KPIs, continuous improvement and impediments to Head of ways of working and the leadership team.

Qualifications

Essential experience:

Min, 2+ years of relevant working experience as a scrum master within a Digital product delivery team.
Strong understanding of Software development life cycle using Agile DevOps methodology.
Strong working knowledge of tools such as ADO, Jira, Confluence, Murals, O365 collaboration tooletc.
Ability to set up sprint boards and create dashboards to track KPIs using the tools.
An active Scrum Certification – CSM, A-CSM, PSM I or PSM II.

Desirable experience:

Experience working in utility or regulated industry.

A competitive salary between £45,000 - £55,000 per annum dependent on capability.
