The opportunity:
Simulation and Modelling Engineer
The Surface Launched Air Defence Group of Simulation and Modelling department is looking for talented Engineers / Physicists / Mathematicians with a keen interest in modelling dynamic complex systems!
The modelling team typically develops and integrates system and subsystem models created within or outside the department to support various stakeholders. These include Performance Engineers, Weapon Systems Simulators in Synthetic Environments, In-Service Support teams, customer training and engineering teams looking at new / improvement product concepts. Working as part of the Simulation & Modelling team would provide you the unique opportunity to experience engineering at a product level for multiple projects, giving you a broad view of the various technologies within our products and their application in various defence platforms.
This role will also give you in-depth exposure to the Modelling tools and process and provide the opportunity to develop relevant skills and apply them in developing large scale models to support MBDA's portfolio of complex guided weapons products.
Our department is part of an international function within MBDA. We have team members in two MBDA UK sites (Bristol and Stevenage) and have strong links to our MBDA sites in Italy, Germany and France.
What we're looking for from you:
- A good understanding of simulation environments (e.g. Simulink, or similar) and / or programming experience (e.g. C, C++, Python, FORTRAN or other languages).
- Understanding of change and configuration control processes is considered an advantage but not essential (e.g. Rational Team Concert).
- Ability to identify and solve sophisticated problems and gather the information needed to drive through to ultimate solutions.
- Ability to visualise and analyse complex systems.
- Practical knowledge of basic systems engineering principles and processes.
You will be working as part of an autonomous, driven and diverse team, engaging with various stakeholders and developing new models using a range of programming languages and tools. Dealing with complexity is commonplace, hence working together as a team is an essential part of the job. We also value cognitive diversity within the team and welcome different ways of thinking, viewpoints and skillsets that enrich our teams.
Compliance and adherence to process is an essential part of our work, therefore you should be willing to work in a controlled modelling environment depending on the project. Due to the sensitive nature of our work, we are currently unable to offer remote working for the technical work. However, we do offer flexible, dynamic working arrangements to ensure you have a good work life balance.
We are a growing department with opportunities to work across a range of interesting projects. The team is vibrant, hard-working and has a strong and successful track record in achieving project breakthroughs.
Our department is well known for developing new and innovative ways of working to enhance existing products and develop new ones.
